In recent years, conventional concrete tanks have been challenged by plastic and fiberglass alternatives. Each type has its merits and each site has differing needs and health department requirements.

There are obvious requirements for either - that it not leak, in or out, that it be of sound workmanship, and that it be installed by a qualified, experienced contractor. To that end the National Precast Concrete Association has published a Best Management Practices Manual available at http://www.precast.org/certification/qc_manual.htm
